Putin discusses Ukraine...D-Day troops remembered...American reported held in North Korea

BENOUVILLE, France (AP) — Russian President Vladimir Putin has been exchanging views about Ukraine today with President Barack Obama and with Ukraine's incoming president, Petro Poroshenko. The two separate informal meetings took place while the leaders took part in observances of the D-Day anniversary in France. The Kremlin says all three men called for a quick end to the bloodshed in eastern Ukraine. An official in the French president's office says Putin and the new Ukrainian leader discussed how Russia could recognize Ukraine's elections, and also talked about a possible cease-fire.

COLLEVILLE-SUR-MER, France (AP) — France's president says his country won't forget what it owes American soldiers. Francois Hollande (frahn-SWAH' oh-LAWND') and President Barack Obama spoke this morning at the Normandy American Cemetery on a bluff overlooking Omaha Beach. Obama said America's commitment to liberty is "written in blood on these beaches."

WASHINGTON (AP) — The State Department says it's aware of the reported detainment of an American tourist in North Korea. The North announced today it is holding the American for committing an unspecified crime. He's identified as Jeffrey Fowle, and would be the third U.S. citizen being held in North Korea. U.S. officials aren't confirming it. Last month, the State Department warned Americans against traveling with private tour operators to North Korea.

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — According to Afghanistan's Taliban, U.S. Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl (boh BURG'-dahl) was treated well during the five years they held him captive. The group says he was even allowed to play soccer with the men who were holding him. A Taliban spokesman in eastern Afghanistan also says Bergdahl was held in different locations inside Afghanistan.

NEW YORK (AP) — Hundreds of New Yorkers have gathered to mourn the death of a 6-year-old Brooklyn boy who was stabbed in an elevator. Mayor Bill de Blasio and the Rev. Al Sharpton attended a private wake today before the funeral of Prince Joshua Avitto. Yesterday, police charged a recently-released convict with murder and other crimes in the stabbing death of the boy, and the wounding of a 7-year-old girl.
