WASHINGTON (AP) — A Pentagon spokesman says former military captive Bowe Bergdahl's health is improving daily, and he is resting more comfortably and becoming more involved in a treatment plan designed to ease his return to the U.S. The spokesman, Army Col. Steve Warren, said there is no date set for Bergdahl to make his first phone call to his family in Idaho or to be transferred from a U.S. military hospital in Germany to an Army hospital in Texas.

STANLEY, Idaho (AP) — A wildfire burning about 10 miles south of Stanley in central Idaho remained at about 80 acres yesterday evening. Julie Thomas, the spokeswoman on the Gold Fire, says crews have a line around the blaze. It's expected to be contained this evening and controlled by Monday. Three hotshot crews, three helicopters, six engine crews and two water tankers are assigned to fight the fire that started Tuesday.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Idaho Power Company says damage to a transmission line caused by a bullet fired from a rifle led to a power outage in central Idaho on Wednesday. But Idaho Power spokeswoman Lynette Berriochoa says the damage might have occurred anytime in the last several months and could have been accidental. The outage affecting 17,000 customers included the town of Hailey, which on Wednesday canceled a planned celebration for the end of June marking the return of Bowe Bergdahl after five years of captivity in Afghanistan.

LEWISTON, Idaho (AP) — A former agricultural education instructor at a northern Idaho high school has been sentenced to six months in jail followed by seven years of probation for possessing child pornography. The Lewiston Tribune reports that 28-year-old Tyler M. Mink received the sentence Wednesday in 2nd District Court. Judge Jeff M. Brudie in March found Mink guilty of 10 felony counts of possessing child pornography. Brudie on Wednesday suspended three-year prison terms for each count.
