COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Utah (AP) — Police say a 17-year-old boy has died after he was accidently shot in the head yesterday by another teenager at a Cottonwood Heights home. Police say a group of boys were in the basement passing around and firing a handgun, thinking it was empty. The 16-year-old who fired the gun has been arrested on suspicion of negligent homicide.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah state officials say they plan to ask a judge to further delay implementation of an order forcing the state to recognize gay marriages that took place in the state after a same-sex marriage ban was overturned. Utah Gov. Gary Herbert and state Attorney General Sean Reyes filed the appeal late yesterday.

WEST HAVEN, Utah (AP) — Investigators are conducting a standard review after police fatally shot a man during an Ogden-area standoff. The Weber County Sheriff's Office says deputies and Ogden police attempted to serve an arrest warrant at an auto body shop yesterday in West Haven, leading to the four-hour standoff that ended in the on a 35-year-old's death. No one else was harmed.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — An American Bar Association panel about federal management of regional water resources was more than academic in the parched West. Experts debated management policies today involving crucial waterways such as the Colorado River, which serves seven states, including Utah, and Mexico. The discussion comes as authorities warn that water demand may in coming years outstrip supply in a region home to 40 million people.
