LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas police cited five immigration reform activists for trespassing after they refused to leave Republican Congressman Joe Heck's office yesterday. The protest was one of 27 held at congressional offices around the country to urge lawmakers to pass changes to immigration laws. About 50 demonstrators tried to get inside Heck's office, but protesters say his staff members told them the group was too large and needed to stay in the hallway. Most of the crowd dispersed, but five of the protesters remained.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — O.J. Simpson's lawyers have resubmitted a Nevada Supreme Court appeal seeking a new trial on grounds that he was misled by his lawyer and didn't get a fair trial in his Las Vegas kidnapping and armed robbery case. The 102-page document asks the seven justices to reconsider whether Simpson's lead attorney at the time had advance knowledge of the ill-fated 2007 confrontation involving Simpson, several other men and two sports memorabilia dealers at a Las Vegas casino hotel.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — The Nell J. Redfield Foundation has pledged $2 million in support for a new student achievement center at the University of Nevada, Reno. University officials announced the gift yesterday for the William N. Pennington Student Achievement Center. The 78,000 square-foot building on the site of the former Getchell Library will bring together various student services currently scattered across campus.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Colin Kaepernick insists he just happened to pull on a pair of socks with dollar bill prints all over them yesterday morning — before he learned he had struck a new fortune with the San Francisco 49ers. Kaepernick received a $126 million, six-year contract extension that keeps him with the organization through the 2020 season. He was a second-round draft pick out of Nevada in 2011.
