LOS ANGELES (AP) — An individual with knowledge of negotiations to sell the Los Angeles Clippers says Shelly Sterling has reached an agreement to sell the team to former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer for $2 billion. The deal now must be presented to the NBA. Shelly Sterling negotiated the sale after her husband, Donald Sterling, made racist remarks that were made public. Donald Sterling must also approve the final agreement as a 50 percent owner. His attorneys say that won't happen.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Democratic support for Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki continues to erode amid reports of delayed treatment for vets at VA facilities. Shinseki spoke privately with lawmakers and met with nearly two dozen veterans groups, assuring them that he takes the reports seriously and is moving swiftly to fix problems.
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (AP) — A man serving life sentences in Illinois for two killings has been convicted in the deaths of four others who were fatally beaten with a hammer in a northwest Illinois apartment in 2008. It took a jury only about three hours to convict Nicholas Sheley. He is due to be tried next in Missouri for the deaths of an Arkansas couple.
CENTENNIAL, Colo. (AP) — Lawyers for the man suspected of killing 12 people in a mass shooting at a Colorado movie theater have told a judge they want the public and the media barred from the entire jury selection process. Prosecutors agreed that individual questioning of potential jurors should be closed but said the last step should be kept open, when the panel of 12 jurors and 12 alternates will be chosen.
HEBER CITY, Utah (AP) — They're calling it a cover up. A group of Utah high school students say their school yearbook photos were digitally altered, with sleeves and higher necklines drawn on to cover bare skin. Some of the students at Wasatch High School in Heber City say their outfits complied with the dress code. The Wasatch County School District says students were warned when yearbook photos were taken last fall that images might be altered if students violated dress standards.
