WICKENBURG, Ariz. (AP) — A fatal two-vehicle accident involving a tractor-trailer rig has closed U.S. 93 in both directions in west-central Arizona. The highway is the main route between Phoenix and Las Vegas. Arizona troopers say the accident occurred shortly after 4 a.m., and they suggest motorists avoid the closure by taking Interstates 17 and 40.
TRUCKEE, Calif. (AP) — A Truckee man has been arrested as a suspect in the death of his 88-year-old mother. Nevada County sheriff's deputies say 61-year-old David Jenkins is jailed on suspicion of second-degree murder and cruelty to elders with great bodily injury. There was no obvious cause of death but authorities say poor living conditions suggest that neglect may have played a role in Nellie Mulligan's death.
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Northern Nevada Development Authority and Nye County have been awarded a combined $1.2 million in federal grants to clean up and redevelop contaminated properties. Funding comes from Brownfields Grants announced yesterday by the EPA. Brownfields funding is designed to assist communities in cleaning up polluted, unused sites and redeveloping the property for sustainable use.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — A new postage stamp celebrating Nevada's 150th birthday is set to be unveiled in Las Vegas today. The new design will be revealed in a ceremony at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts that will feature Nevada's senators, governor and others. The stamp itself will be available at post offices nationwide tomorrow.
