WASHINGTON (AP) — Secretary of State John Kerry says former U.S. government analyst Edward Snowden "should man up and come back to the United States." Snowden fled the U.S. before it came out that he had leaked U.S. secrets. He's now in Russia. Kerry tells NBC's "Today" show that "If Mr. Snowden wants to come back to the United States, we'll have him on a flight today." Kerry says Snowden should "make his case to the American people."
WASHINGTON (AP) — Secretary of State John Kerry says the United States is setting up a $5 billion "terrorism partnership fund" to help other countries push back against radical extremists. Kerry tells network morning talk shows that President Barack Obama will talk about the partnership and his timeline for pulling U.S. troops out of Afghanistan during a commencement address today at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
DONETSK, Ukraine (AP) — Chechnya's Moscow-backed leader is insisting that he has not sent any of his troops to help pro-Russia insurgents in eastern Ukraine. But he says some Chechens may have gone there on their own. Scores of rebel fighters have been killed this week around the major eastern city of Donetsk, and Ukrainian border guards have reported at least one gunbattle as they blocked groups of armed men trying to cross into Ukraine from Russia.
SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — An 81-year-old patient with dementia is being held on suspicion of starting a fire today at a hospital in South Korea, which killed 21 people and injured several others. The hospital in Jangseong specializes in dementia and palsy patients. Officials say security video shows the man entering the room where the fire began. Remains of a lighter were found in the room.
NEW YORK (AP) — A woman walking by a construction site in New York City was injured when a power saw blade came loose, flew about 100 feet through the air and sliced her. The saw was being used to cut through concrete. Police say as the woman walked along 48th Street near 9th Avenue, the saw flew up in the air, hit a tree and then cut the woman in the leg. She was taken to the hospital, but her condition isn't known.
