SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say they are investigating nine crime scenes after a drive by shooting that killed seven people including a suspect. Seven others were wounded in a student enclave next to the University of California, Santa Barbara. Santa Barbara County Sheriff Bill Brown says he doesn't know whether the suspect was shot by deputies, or if his wound was self-inflicted.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) — Firefighters in Arizona plan to give ground to a wildfire burning through a scenic northern Arizona canyon until it reaches less rugged firefighting terrain and concentrate on protecting structures and communities in the meantime. The tactical decision means the fire could triple in size unless rain stops it. No injuries have been reported so far and no structures have burned.

KIEV, Ukraine (AP) — A Ukrainian official says tomorrow's presidential election is being hampered in the eastern part of the country by pro-Russian insurgents. The official says insurgents have prevented at least half of the election districts in the embattled east from preparing for voters. The official says the offices of 17 out of 34 district election commissions have either been seized or blocked by armed men.

AMMAN, Jordan (AP) — Pope Francis has arrived in Jordan to begin his three-day trip to the Middle East. The pope says the trip will be "challenging" but rewarding. Francis will get a firsthand look at the plight of Syrian refugees, meet with King Abdullah II and Queen Rania and celebrate Mass in Amman's International Stadium.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama makes a pitch for veterans in his weekly media message. He draws a connection between Memorial Day and the scandal over allegations of misconduct at Veterans Affairs hospitals saying it shows how much more the U.S. must do to ensure veterans get the care they deserve. For the Republicans, Rep. Bill Shuster of Pennsylvania says a water projects bill passed this week demonstrates Republicans' focus on jobs and government accountability.
