SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — An environmental group hoping to halt a Uinta Basin drilling project is suing federal officials in U.S. District Court. WildEarth Guardians says the 400-well project proposed by Berry Petroleum will trample sage grouse habitats in the Ashley National Forest and worsen air quality in eastern Utah. The agencies declined to comment while the suit is pending.

GREEN RIVER, Utah (AP) — Federal officials say an oil leak in a southeast Utah field has been contained. The federal Bureau of Land Management says a leaking oil well about 12 miles southeast of the town of Green River was reported Wednesday morning. The BLM says they are trying to determine how much oil leaked, but don't believe it reached the Green River.

PROVO, Utah (AP) — A judge has been asked to decide a defamation lawsuit in which a Utah County Republican Party member is seeking $1 in damages from a party leader. The Deseret News reports that Julie Blaney claims in a lawsuit that county vice chairman Daryl Acumen wrongly accused her of misusing party money. Acumen's attorney says he was only doing his diligence as a party leader to see if an investigation was needed.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Construction crews finishing work on the new federal courthouse in downtown Salt Lake City have unearthed remnants of the city's early days. Landscape workers found the foundation of a stable, evidence of a blacksmith shop and parts of an old storefront. KSL-TV reports some items will be displayed inside the new courthouse.
