CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — The Nevada Supreme Court says it won't reconsider its previous ruling that city council members can't run for mayor when the reach their term limits. A 5-2 ruling issued last month knocked former Reno Councilwoman Jessica Sferrazza and current Councilman Dwight Dortch out of this year's mayoral race.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Critics of Nevada's initiative process are asking the state Supreme Court to make it easier for groups to qualify measure for the ballot. The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that they are challenging a rule that restricts petitions to a single subject. They say that slows the process, making it difficult to gather enough signatures by the deadline.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A 41-year-old ex-convict could be eligible for parole almost immediately after he was sentenced to 12 to 30 months in prison for a shooting that left him and a Mesquite, Nev., police officer wounded almost a year ago. Daniel Runyon's public defender told a judge today that Runyon shot himself in the head before he was also shot by police during a traffic stop last March 21.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Southern California man who lost $500,000 in Super Bowl bets is suing a Las Vegas Casino, saying they loaned him money and allowed him to wager while he was drunk. Mark Johnson's attorney says the Downtown Grand casino is countersuing Johnston for trying to shirk his gambling debts. The Grand did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
