Hey, do you have any plans for New Year’s Eve this year? Maybe you’re planning to take in the fabulous First Night celebration downtown or just staying at home with friends or family to watch the clock strike midnight. Another safe and sensible option is to dine out at one of Salt Lake City’s fine restaurants. Maybe because this New Year’s Eve falls on a Saturday, a number of terrific local restaurants are offering special New Year’s Eve menus and dinners.

Over at Bambara Executive Chef Robert Barker has created a six-course dinner for New Year’s Eve featuring a Dungeness crab salad, coriander seared elk, five-spiced tuna, and a Chocolate Extravaganza dessert.

Over on the east side Fresco Café will serve up ricotta gnocchi, grilled veal loin chops, and lobster pancetta risotto for the evening. Boy, lobster risotto would make any New Year’s celebration a special one!

At Café Trio grilled shrimp, seared sea bass with mascarpone risotto, and pancetta crusted filet mignon are the stars of the evening. While up at Log Haven in Millcreek Canyon, guests and mix and match menu items to create their own customized three or five-course New Year’s Eve dinner. Some of the night’s specials at Log Haven include garlic poached lobster, Diver scallop herbed ravioli, warm brie filled with mushrooms, and spice-crusted caribou.

You say you want music with your dinner? At Metropolitan the New Year’s Eve celebration features live jazz and a six-course dinner. Some of the highlights are white asparagus risotto, lobster tartare, a sweet onion tart with foie gras and a Champagne toast at midnight.

Well wherever you wind up, I wish you and yours a safe and healthy, happy New Year!
