I remember sitting in the news room last July checking out different web sites looking for story ideas. I checked out one in Sacramento where a former colleague of mine is now employed to see what stories he had been working on when I noticed a story saying “Ostertag traded.” I thought who could be dumb enough to ......NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! I remember actually yelling out in the newsroom. I couldn’t believe he was coming back to Utah.
Let’s check out his numbers this year.
2.5 points 3.8 rebounds 1.0 assists
His season high for points this year is 9.
Greg Ostertag was drafted 28th overall in 1995. Since that time Larry Miller will have shelled out nearly $50,000,000 for big number 00. A number many of us consider symbolic for “Tag.”
Let’s go over some career high lights. Remember that time when he scored 25 points in 2001, neither do I. And let’s not forget that 7.3 points and 7.3 rebounds that led to a 6-year, $39 million dollar deal in 1997.
It will be tough seeing Ostertag leave the Jazz once again. Who are we supposed to blame now? I know we all have our favorite memories of the infamous "00" whether it's crumbling in front of Shaq or coming out in his speedo while in Sacramento and dancing around.
As Jazz fans I believe we should all head to the Delta Center April 20th and help Greg pack up his gear and help him leave…as soon as possible. We owe it to each other.
