(KSL News) -- Drug abuse experts say hundreds of thousands of kids are damaging their brains, ruining their bodies, and even dying from inhaling solvents found in nearly everyone's home. And they're starting at young ages.

Today the federal government's Substance Abuse Agency reported millions of teens have inhaled household products, with the sharpest increase among 12 and 13-year-olds.

Beverly Watts Davis, Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration: "I've had so many mothers say 'We're so excited. Our children are getting ready to do arts and crafts and they're buying white-outs, glues and things,' thinking that their child is getting interested in art."

But experts say these products are poison. Inhalants can lead to blindness, organ failure, and heart attacks.

Experts urge parents to look for warning signs, including red eyes, a runny nose, sores, vomiting, passing out, or just looking dazed. They could be signs of danger.
