Val D'Isere (dpa) - Lindsay C. Kildow beat fellow-American Caroline Lalive for victory in a women's World Cup downhill ski race held in difficult conditions on Saturday
Gusty winds and snowfall marred the event which was delayed by 90 minutes. Crashes involving Austrian Karin Blaser and Carmen Casanova of Switzerland led to further delays but both athletes appeared to have escaped without serious injuries.
Conditions improved as the race progressed and Kildow made the most of it to top the podium in 1 minute 21.91 seconds. It was her second season victory following a December 3 downhill in Lake Louise, Canada, and third for her overall.
Lalive clocked 1:22.29 minutes and Austrian Alexandra Meissnitzer was third in 1:22.30 minutes.
Kildow stretched her lead atop the downhill standings with 245 points from three races. Michaela Dorfmeister of Austria is second with 172 points from an eighth-place finish Saturday and Meissnitzer has 170 for third place.
In the overall standings, Dorfmeister holds first place with 366 points from eight events. Kildow moved into second place with 322 and Miessnitzer is third with 320 points.
The women's World Cup continues on Sunday with a Super-G race.
