(KSL News) -- The buzz has worn off a Florida bird. Now the owl is going back to the wild.

A family was decorating their Christmas tree, when they found a little screech owl perched inside.

Animal control officers came to get the owl. But noticed something funny.

“And it was laying there as happy as can be..."

"And they examined the owl, looked at its eyes, big owl eyes, and the owl was, in the vernacular... Stoned."

In other words... high on marijuana. Blood test confirmed the owl was flying without wings.

They checked him out, fed him and named him "Cheech."

He'll be released in a few days.

All the attention helped the bird sanctuary with holiday donations.
