I am probably the worst member of the KSL News Staff when it comes to blogging. I don’t do it as often as I’m invited, and there are times when I can’t think of a topic that I feel passionately enough about to take the time to write my opinions. However, I spotted a grave injustice that I can not ignore anymore. This confession could cause a many people in the blogosphere to lose a great amount of respect for me. This could potentially ruin my career, and destroy any credibility I may have. While I’ve tried to hide the fact that I am now ready to reveal for some years now, I know that I can not run from it anymore. This issue needs to be addressed before more people suffer as I have been lately. So, here it goes. Yes. I watch American Idol, and something must be done about this Sanjaya guy. Seriously. I mean, seriously. We all know that this kid is the worst singer on this show. The judges literally have stopped criticizing his vocal ability, because they don’t believe he has any. Yet, week after week, he manages to stay on the show. I must confess, though, I find myself watching the show this season merely because there isn’t much else on Tuesday nights. Last year, I really liked to see Taylor Hicks and Katharine McPhee. I enjoyed watching Reuben Studdard during season two, and there were a few times when Fantasia knocked my socks off during season three. This year, I couldn’t tell you the names of any of these contestants, except Sanjaya because he’s that bad. Basically, I’ve been calling the other singers the curly-haired guy, the beat-bopper and the three ladies who are not bad. How does Sanjaya stay alive in this competition? Who is voting for this guy? Is this a cruel joke? Do they vote for him so, next week, they can tune in and have a collective laugh? If so, I can respect that. Some entertainment analysts have reported that Simon Cowell would consider quitting the show if Sanjaya wins. Simon, if he does win, it’s your fault. All three judges criticized him to the sky during Hollywood week. He had weak performances throughout the whole process, and still, Simon, you put him in the top 24 contestants. There were plenty of good singers that you decided would not be on the show, and you kept a singer you didn’t like. I don’t know why you did it, but you did. If Sanjaya makes you leave the show that made you a household name in the U.S., it’s because you kept him around in the first place. Recently, on YouTube, I saw a video of one young lady saying she was going on a hunger strike until Sanjaya was kicked off, the producers stripped him of his position on the show, or he drops out. It was a few weeks ago, so that woman must be really hungry now. I, on the other hand, will not go that far. I won’t call on people to boycott the show, and I won’t ask everyone reading this now to carefully consider their favorite singers and to vote for them. Why not? I think a lot of people are probably like me. We really just don’t care about this show anymore. This has been a terrible season with mediocre singers, apart from a few exceptions, and I don’t think people are really interested in any of these people.
