SALT LAKE CITY — It was just a friendly golf wager — with a rivalry element, of course.

That was how former Utah punter Tom Hackett billed it when he and close friend Andy Phillips — the kicker himself — challenged ex-BYU quarterback Riley Nelson and former Cougar offensive lineman Braden Hansen to a friendly round of golf.

Hackett isn’t afraid to let his feelings about the BYU-Utah rivalry known — he’s the one who famously declared himself loss-free against the Cougars prior to the Utes’ kickoff in Las Vegas a few years ago — and he and Phillips talk Utah football on their podcast on KSL Newsradio.

So what were the stakes? 🙌

Phillips wanted a year’s supply of Cougar Tails, the delectable treat served only at LaVell Edwards Stadium.

As with a lot of other rivalry matchups, the inaugural edition would also feature the losing team donning the colors of their rival.

We’ll let you decide how the result went, thanks to the video above — and this tweet from Hansen.

"It just wasn't our day," Phillips said.

But was the result legit? Shenanigans may be afoot. 🤔

On one hole, Phillips accidentally let slip that the Ute special-teams gang had played the same hole recently, or within the last week.

Shhhhh 🤫 ....

"Do not let them know that we play this on Friday, Andy," Hackett quickly chided his kicking comrade.
