NEW LONDON, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut College says a $20 million gift from an alumnus who runs a telecommunications company is the largest in the school's history.
The private liberal arts college in New London announced the gift from Robert Hale and his wife Karen on Tuesday.
A 1988 graduate and trustee of Connecticut College, Hale is president and CEO of Granite Telecommunications.
The college says $10 million of the donation will go toward scholarships, $5 million will support the school's career program and $5 million will be used to improve athletics facilities.
College President Katherine Bergeron said the gift will support its promise to meet 100 percent of an accepted student's demonstrated financial need.
Connecticut College enrolls about 1,900 students.
