SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The housing boom in Utah may be slowing as the number of permits issued for residential buildings have fallen 4.5 percent this year.

That's according to a report by the University of Utah's Bureau of Economic and Business Research. The report say permits issued the first nine months of this year fell to 20,387 from 21,347 from the same period last year.

But in Utah County, permits are skyrocketing, despite the declining trend statewide. The report says permits were up nearly 21 percent there.

Record home building in Lehi is driving numbers, where 1,361 permits were handed out from January through September. Eagle Mountain and Saratoga Springs also saw increases this year.
