(KSL News) -- A new organization dedicated to helping families and autistic patients met today, for the first time in Utah.

The Autism Council of Utah met today at the state office building auditorium. The group says it wants to act as an authority on autism and other related disabilities. It hopes parents will be able to get in touch with the Autism Council to get all their information.

Emilie Tanner, Autism Council of Utah: "This council should provide the resources needed to help those families from ages birth all the way through adulthood."

Mothers, teachers, educators and service providers all attended today's event.

The council will meet twice each year.
