Sam Penrod ReportingJonas Beckstrom, Snowboarder: "It's amazing, September 16th, couldn't ask for more perfect snow."

Others may not enjoy seeing snow on September 16th, but ready or not, colder weather has arrived leaving snow visible in the mountains tonight. Just a few days ago, temperatures hit 90 in northern Utah; and now this-- snow in the mountains! It's clear that the seasons are certainly changing, and changing drastically.

Weather Offers Chilly Preview of Winter

It's so cold tonight that the National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning.

Four-year old Hunter Mackay is helping his parents cover up their garden that is full of all kinds of vegetables, most importantly the pumpkins.

Hunter Mackay: "Pumpkins, tomatoes and cucumbers."

Just days ago, the Mackays were worried about watering their garden because of the heat-- now all of the sudden, they're worried about the frost.

Amy Mackay, Gardener: "We've put a lot of work into it and a lot of manpower trying to keep it green, and now we've got to keep it going."

Cars and semi's were only creeping up the hill on I-80 in Parley's Canyon this morning because of several inches of snow that fell. At Brighton, several snowboarders found a foot of snow and it was suddenly snowboard time.

Treyson Allen, Snowboarder: "We decided if there was enough snow we'd just go in in the morning and there was about a foot. And it's awesome, hope it stays."

Chances are it won't, but this early snow got the ski resorts excited. For example, Snowbird announced today it will open on November 18th. Even though that's still a couple of months away, some snow lovers will take what they can get for now.

Stosh Lemberes, Snowboarder: "Live to ride, ride to live, 5 a.m woke up, let's go hit it so we came up blizzarding, didn't think we'd make it all the way up, but we did, and just having a great time."

There is a freeze warning for the Wasatch Front as well as the Cache Valley, Central Utah and Uinta Basin. So if you haven't yet, you might want to cover up your gardens and plants tonight, just in case.
