Tonya Papanikolas Reporting Utah is just days away from officially getting a new department store. Meier and Frank stores will be changing to Macy's this Saturday.
Most of the stores have already unveiled their new signs. The employees are the same people who worked at Meier and Frank, but they've had to go through a lot of new training. They say they'll emphasize customer service now, and that's not the only change you'll notice.
Employees at the soon-to-be Macy's department stores are getting ready for their big unveiling this weekend.
Barry Arnold, Macy's Manager, Cottonwood Mall: "We're doing all the visual work throughout the store, making sure we look our best."
Workers are installing shelves, hanging merchandise and putting up new clothing displays. Many prominently feature new brands the store will be offering customers.
Barry Arnold, Macy's Manager, Cottonwood Mall; "About 70-75 percent of our store is different than it was two months ago."
Customers are already noticing.
Shauna Zamanja, Shopper: "I want to see something different, not the same thing that every other store has. And it looks like that's what they have here right now. I'm pretty impressed."
Alyse Barton, Shopper: "There's different brands, different selection of a lot of things, so I think it will be a lot of fun when it all gets here."
Store managers say Macy's will offer more choices than Meier and Frank, including some trendier items along with more traditional clothes.
Barry Arnold: "We constantly are getting new merchandise - new colors, new fashions come in weekly. so the store will look different every time they come in."
Though the store will carry higher end brands, managers say customers will always be able to find low prices.
Lynn Harding, Shopper: "What's nice are the prices. Look at the quality for the prices. I mean, they're wonderful; we're real happy."
One thing you'll notice different about Macy's is all the open space. They have huge aisles to accommodate customers, and they even have a rule - three feet in between all their racks and displays.
Shopper: "I like the wide aisles, and there's more room, you don't feel like everything is all compacted together."
