Ashley Hayes ReportingA man threatening to blow up his house holds off police for several hours overnight.

A domestic call involving a gas threat that turned into a police standoff has ended. Police arrested the man at the source of all this, early this morning.

It started around 5:00 in the evening yesterday. Police responded to a domestic violence call at a mobile home park at 1175 West 4660 South.

At that point it was verbal and they left. But when police returned overnight the situation was out of hand.

Sgt. Rosie Rivera, Taylorsville Police Dept.: "Around ten o'clock we received another call. He was threatening to kill both of them by turning the gas on in the trailer. When officers arrived they smelled gas."

A woman says her husband attacked her while she was sleeping. She escaped.

Police evacuated the area and the streets around the mobile home. They were able to shut off the gas to the trailer. Once it was safe, they threw in tear gas of their own.

The man inside came out, but police say he was beligerent. They had to tazer him to make the arrest.

Officers say the man is in his 60's and is terminally ill with cancer, has an alcohol problem, and has faced criminal charges in the past, including DUI and domestic violence. He's now looking at another domestic violence charge and a charge for creating a potentially hazardous situation.

The woman is recovering and is expected to be okay.
