Tonya Papanikolas ReportingFor many kids around the state, the end of summer has come and kids are heading back to school. There's always mixed reactions, but most of the kids we talked to were excited to get back to school.

Right now, 21 of the state's 40 school districts are in session. In the Murray district, school started yesterday.

Darren Dean, Viewmont Elementary Principal: "Our summer was a little shorter, but we get out in May this year, so we're happy about that."

Lauren Bell, 6th Grader, Viewmont Elementary: "I was excited to get the teacher that I wanted and to see all my friends again."

Teachers at Viewmont Elementary say they've been preparing lessons and projects all summer long. Now they just have to settle into a routine. For first graders, it's the first long day they've spent at school. Teachers say it takes a little while to get adjusted.

Janiel Howell, First Grade Teacher, Viewmont Elementary: "They are wiped out by the end of the day. Usually by first recess, it's, 'Is it time to go home yet?' And by lunch, 'Can we go home yet'?'"

For the older kids, they either enjoy learning or enjoy the social aspect of school.

Lauren Bell, 6th Grader: "I have to get good grades cause I want to be a doctor when I grow up, so I need to be able to learn."

Nate Leithhead, 5th grader: "The best part is lunch and talking to my friends."

The rest of the school districts start classes either later this week or Monday. Some middle schools actually have 6th or 7th graders come on one day to get used to their new school, then the older kids start the next day.
