Alex Cabrero Reporting It's perhaps the busiest stretch of road in the state, which is why a pair of shootings on I-15 in Salt Lake have police concerned.

Thousands of people drive I-15 in Salt Lake City every day and night, but it's not often police get the kind of report they got early Thursday morning.

Mark Zesiger: "We had a report of two different vehicles that had been shot at."

And both of them at about the same time, three a.m. and in the same place.

Shootings on I-15 Could Be Connected

Lt. Mark Zesiger, Utah Highway Patrol: "One of the vehicles had been shot in the passenger's door, and one of the vehicles had been shot in the tire."

No one was hurt, but there's also no apparent reason for the shootings.

Lt. Mark Zesiger: "Right now, all the preliminary evidence would show that they are connected. However, we don't have the evidence reports back, like ballistics or anything at this time."

Police also want to know if a third shooting in the general area at about the same time is connected. In that case, a man was at West Temple and 33rd South when all of a sudden, he was shot in the face. South Salt Lake Police got the call.

Capt. Tracy Tingey, South Salt Lake Police Dept.: "When they arrived, they found a single Hispanic male, mid-twenties, that was laying in the middle of the road."

But even though all these incidents occurred within the same time frame, police right now don't think it's all part of something bigger.

Lt. Mark Zesiger: "Right now, we don't see anything like that. It doesn't appear to be a sniper type situation."

Which comes as kind of a relief to investigators.

Lt. Mark Zesiger: "It's just a random act of violence, and it's nothing we think the public needs to be alarmed about."

The man who was shot in the face is expected to live. There were no witnesses to that shooting. As far as the interstate shootings, all a witness could tell police is it's a white SUV that had 4 men inside -- not a lot to go on.
