Sam Penrod Reporting"I don't think any of them are that smart when you can go to federal prison for robbing a bank, and they usually don't get that much money."

A violent bank robbery in Provo today, but the suspect gives police plenty of clues to find him. Within an hour of the bank robbery, the suspect was arrested. And police caught him with the loot and the gun they say he used in the robbery.

This was not your typical bank robber. He walked in without a disguise, brought a big bag with a rifle in it, and parked his getaway car in plain sight from the bank's front door.

Surveillance photos capture a crime in progress. A man in his twenties, armed with a long rifle, demanding bank tellers to give him thousands of dollars in cash.

Lt. John Geyerman, Provo Police Dept.: "He came in carrying a bag, a duffel bag with handles on it. Laid it down, took out a rifle with a scope on it and pointed it at the clerks and tellers and told them he wanted some money. Put the bag on the counter, they put some money in it and he took the bag and he left the bank."

Bank employees called police and also got the suspect's license plate. Some bank customers watched what happened and followed the suspect several blocks.

"There was actually a person at the bank that saw the robbery and got a license plate number and direction of travel. He went northbound on University Avenue."

Police traced the license plate to a house in Lehi. That's where they arrested the suspect, and say the gun used in the robbery and the stolen money was inside of the getaway car.

Police admit, the suspect made it easy for them to catch him.

"He came in without a costume on, with a gun, no mask, no disguise of any kind, parked right by the bank in a vehicle with a license plate on it."
