Gene Kennedy ReportingWhen police officers pull people over, they never know exactly what they're in for. Overnight, a man pulled over for speeding, took off running and jumped on top of a building.

This guy really wanted to get away from police. He had felony warrants out on him, plus he had been drinking and driving, according to police.

A traffic officer smelled alcohol on the suspect, gave him a field sobriety test and police say he failed. When the officer tried to arrest him, the man took off on foot. But he couldn't hide from a K-9.

"JJ" the bloodhound tracked the man's scent to an apartment building off 300 South 1000 East. But the man wasn't in the building, he was on the roof.

An officer saw the man's feet dangling over the roof's edge and the officer didn't hesitate going after him.

Lt. Dave Cracroft, Salt Lake City Police Dept.: "Officer Serio climbed on the roof and ended up getting into a foot chase across the roof of the building with our suspect. They both jumped off the roof and the man was again taken into custody at that point."

One officer has some scrapes this morning, another was taken to the hospital for a cut to his hand, but all in all, everyone walked away from this okay.

The suspect is in jail on multiple charges, including traffic violation, DUI, and fleeing from officers, not to mention the felony warrants.
