Gene Kennedy ReportingWhen police spotted a stolen car this afternoon, the driver rammed an unmarked police car and took off. That started a wild search through a Murray neighborhood and locked down an elementary school.

Police arrested the suspect about an hour ago. In fact, we witnessed the suspect being caught on live TV.

The suspect, Jason Robinson, was found near an apartment building at 6400 South 720 East.

Rosie Rivera, Taylorsville Police Department: "We actually received a citizens tip from someone in the apartment."

Eyewitness News talked to the lady who first spotted him.

Sonia Samuels, Found Suspect: "My friend Lacy came home from work and she's like, 'Did you know there's a suspect in the area?' I knew something was going on but I wasn't quite sure. I was like, 'What does he look like?' 'He's white, bald head.' She was getting her mail and I walked upstairs and I was, 'Like that guy over there?' He was... just lying there."

Robinson had been a passenger in a stolen car. The driver of the stolen car apparently tried to ram a police car.

Rosie Rivera, Taylorsville Police Department: "Our Taylorsville Detectives were investigating an auto theft case, and happened to run into a vehicle that had been stolen out of Salt Lake City this morning. They were familiar with the suspect, went to make a stop on him and he rammed a police car. They were working closely with Midvale Police at the time of the investigation."

The stolen car was driven a bit further, running into an SUV.

Robinson then fled on foot. The driver of the stolen vehicle was arrested. Officers searched for Robinson from the air and the ground for over two hours.

Officials say Jason Robinson has a felony drug warrant out for him. He is also a possibly a suspect in an aggravated assault in Provo. The assault reportedly took place a couple of weeks ago, and involved a gun.

Residents in the area had been told to stay in their homes. Longview Elementary had been locked down for a time, but that lockdown has been lifted, and the children have been allowed to go home.
