Many people say Highway Six could use safety improvements. Now, that's going to happen.

At the Little Acorn Restaurant in Spanish Fork, Cindi Nguen does it all-- taking orders, preparing food, and working the cash register. But one thing she'd really like to do is make Highway Six, behind her restaurant, safer for her customers.

Highway Six through Spanish Fork Canyon to I-70 has gotten quite a reputation over the past several years. There have been many crashes there, often fatal.

Tom Sorenson, who drives the road every day, is about to get his wish. "They need to make it a lot wider," he says.

Safety Improvements Planned for Highway Six

UDOT told us Highway Six is about to get a ton of money for improvements. Most of the projects consist of widening the road. But UHP troopers say no matter how wide the road is, drivers still need to be alert and slow down. It all comes down to the driver, but at least now they're getting some help.

The planned safety improvements could take three years or longer to finish, and there will be delays during the construction. But UDOT and drivers we talked to say it will be worth it.
