(KSL News) A man hit a woman over the head with an axe, and the woman turned to a 14-year-old boy for help.

Salt Lake County Sheriff's deputies say a 47-year-old woman was walking along Wasatch Boulevard last night when a man driving a black Ford Taurus picked her up. Both are carpenters, but it's unclear if they knew each other.

They drove around, bought some beer and then, the woman says the man hit her with an axe.

She got out of his car, leaving her purse and cell phone behind, stumbled around and eventually banged on a stranger's door.

A 14-year-old boy answered. He got his dad, who didn't believe him until he saw the woman bleeding from the head. They called 9-1-1. The woman was rushed to Cottonwood Hopsital in critical condition.

Deputies say the details are still unclear.

Sgt. John Barker/Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office: "It's hard to get an accurate story out of her because she's pretty unsure of the details and exactly where she was."

Authorities are looking for the man with the axe, but all they have is a vague description of his car. If they find him, he could face aggravated assault charges.
