Gene Kennedy reporting A 15-year-old girl is in the hospital after someone shot her in the back overnight. Now police are trying to figure out what led to the attack.

At this point, it appears to be drug-related.

All of it began with a fight at a Salt Lake City home. Police say a 19-year-old woman drove to a Salt Lake home to make a drug buy. She had two friends with her, including the 15-year-old victim.

At the home, police say a fight broke out between the 19-year-old woman and three men who were there. One of them pulled out a gun and a teenager got caught in the crossfire.

She was shot in her lower back. The victim and her two friends jumped into a car which had been stolen from West Valley last week. They drove a couple blocks down the road to 200 South, 900 West. The victim called 9-1-1 from a pay phone.

One of the girls, the victim's cousin stayed on scene. But that 19 year-old woman who was originally with them was nowhere to be found.

Lt. C.T. Smith / Salt Lake City Police Dept. "She's fled the area...we're still trying to piece together the information."

The 15 year-old is fair condition, according to police. Luckily, the bullet did not hit any vital organs.

Meantime police are looking for that 19 year-old woman who they think was driving the car.

And the hunt is also on for the shooter. But the description is very vague.

Detectives hope talking with the people involved with help them whoever shot the girl.
