(KSL News) -- Jordan teachers are about to get a morale booster. Their union has negotiated a more than 5 percent pay raise.

The teachers have signed off on the tentative deal. The union says it's one of the best in the state, but ...

Laura Black, Jordan Education Association director: "The real caveat in all of this is our insurance is going to eat up a huge piece of that, and in fact, we know that some teachers will actually end up in the hole."

District insurance costs are up 24 percent. Other areas are dealing with the same problem.

The district didn't want to comment until the board votes on the deal Tuesday.
