Police say the car they were in was speeding around a curve near 111th South and 2125 East when the driver lost control. They suspect the car, a Saab sedan, hit rocks and a mailbox, went airborne and flipped.

They don't know how many times the car rolled. They brought in a crime scene analyst and an accident reconstructionist to assess what happened.

Lt. Craig Watson, Sandy Police Dept: "I've been to a lot of accidents in the 30 years I've been on the police department, and this is a pretty bad accident."

The car crashed around 1:00 am. The commotion woke up residents. They say speed has been a problem on their road, and a similar accident occured a little more than a year ago.

Sandy Police have been pulling over speeders in the area, though they say that's usually during high traffic hours, not in the middle of the night.
