Chris Kaye ReportingAn investigation is underway after an I.R.S. laptop computer was reported missing. KSL Newsradio recieved a tip that some workers at the center in Ogden could be affected.
An IRS official says the laptop with the personal information of nearly 300 employees or those who have applied for jobs was lost on a cross-country flight. The IRS official refused an interview on tape, but confirmed the information over the phone.
Gary Braut, Vice President of Biometrics for Sliex America in Midvale, says they have a solution.
Gary Braut: "Using your fingerprint that's unique to you. It asks you to authenticate, if you choose to download the file from the enterprise server or from your computer. It will automatically encrypt the file and put it into the encrypted folder on the hard drive."
Braut says unlike what you see in the movies, fingerprints cannot be lifted off a device or reproduced in anyway.
