(KSL News) A man is badly beaten and left to die. Authorities say they know who did it.

Shirley Fontenoy: "I heard that it was pretty bad. He was beaten with a ball bat. They don't know if he's going to make it or not."

A 31-year-old man is being held in the Salt Lake County jail on suspicion of murder. Police say Jaber Priest Bennett severely beat 19-year-old Pilar Escoto-Ramirez last Thursday.

Authorites found Ramirez on the floor in his apartment in extremely critical condition. He suffered severe head trauma and died at the hospital on Sunday.

Police believe the beating was over a drug debt.

No weapons were used, but police say Bennett had a clear physical advantage. He is about six foot 3 and weighs 200 pounds. Ramirez was only five feet 3 inches with a small build.

Bennett was also wanted in Nevada on charges he assaulted a police officer.
