Carole Mikita ReportingRelief supplies are being loaded at Salt Lake International Airport right now. Muslims and Latter-day Saints have once again joined forces to help others around the world.

A 747 cargo jet is being loaded with 100 tons of medical supplies. That process will last several hours, then the pilot will take-off immediately.

Islamic Relief Worldwide is supplying the plane and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is donating the first-aid supplies to help the thousands injured in that earthquake in Indonesia. Globus Relief donated an additional $8,500 worth of surgical instruments and material for casts. It takes eight semi-truckloads to fill that plane. The trip will take 22 hours.

Mokhtar Shawky, Islamic Relief Worldwide, Bd. of Dir.: "There will be some helicopters on the ground. As soon as this airplane lands, they will be able to pick up all the medical equipment and supplies that are needed, and they will take them to areas where they are waiting to help the injured."

Garry Flake, LDS Church Humanitarian Emergency Response, Dir.: "Our interest, because of the shortage of first aid supplies, is to take from our stocks here and get them there as quickly as we can. We're grateful for the partnership."

This immediate response is geared to the injured. Muslims and Latter-day Saints already on the ground in Indonesia are helping with food, water and tents for those left homeless.

Also, Catholic Relief Services is providing emergency aid to those earthquake victims through its overseas operations, and Globus Relief is preparing its own shipment.
