Alex Cabrero Reporting Remembering soldiers and their sacrifices is what Memorial Day weekend is all about. Some are remembering in a modern kind of way.
It's really quite simple. All you need is a computer, a video camera and a soldier's e-mail address. But even if you didn't have any of those, well, that's why some people went to Cabela's today.
Walk into the Cabela's in Lehi and you can find just about anything -- fishing poles, camping clothes, guns.
Carl Clark and his family had never been there before, but he knew his son would love it.
Carl Clark: "Yeah, I think it'll make his day."
But there is one thing you can't buy at Cabela's, something more important than anything else they carry.
Carl Clark: "We're proud of you and proud of what you're doing. Hope you're safe, and we pray for you every night."
Clark's brother-in-law is a soldier currently in Iraq. At Cabela's today,he was allowed to send him a video e-mail, just to let him know Memorial Day means more than picnics and barbeques.
Carl Clark: "You think about it a little more when it's somebody you love over there in harm's way."
Julianne Clark: "It's a time to remember all those who are serving our country, and those who have served."
For these veterans, it's also a time to let today's soldiers know they understand what they're going through.. But mostly, families just wanted to remind their loved ones at war that there is a better place in the world.
If only the families could be there when the soldiers get their surprise.
Julianne Clark: "He'll get a real kick out of it. I think his face will light up and he'll be real happy to receive it."
