SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A new survey from Triple-A shows the number of Utahns planning to travel this Memorial Day is slightly up this year.

Triple-A says about 338-thousand residents are expected to travel 50 miles or more this holiday weekend. That's less than a one percent increase from last year.

The majority of travelers will be hitting the road. Triple-A says about 320-thousand Utahns will travel by car, while 49-thousand plan to fly and 17-thousand will use other modes of transportation such as buses, trains or boats.

Triple-A says despite the slight increase in travelers, gas prices are having more of an impact this year than in years because of the cumulative effect of high gas prices year after year.

In fact, Triple-A says high gas prices was the number one reason people gave for deciding to travel less or NOT at all this summer.
