Nishi Gupta ReportingInvestigators are taking a closer look at a late-night house fire in the Millcreek area. Today, a special team of investigators says arson is a possibility. A domestic dispute may be the cause.

Today, a man told a KSL photographer his girlfriend came to his work, asking for money. Later, he says they got into a fight, and she gave him a black eye.

He said after the fire, she text messaged him, asking him how the house was.

One-hundred-thousand dollars in damage, and a house that will need extensive repair before the six people that lived in it can move back in.

The call for help came around midnight. An adult at the house at 2220 E. Vimont Avenue woke up and smelled smoke.

Jay Torgersen/ Unified Fire Authority: "Everyone was asleep. I investigated it and saw what looked like smoke and fire coming from underneath a closed bedroom door."

Some neighbors were given a tour of the house this morning.

Pat Walz/ Neighbor: "The living room was gutted. The bedroom where the fire started was gutted."

Neighbors say that room belonged to the man who had the argument with his girlfriend.

When fire crews arrived, they found all of the family outside. No one was injured. But the house didn't fare as well. Flames were shooting through the front window.

The main floor was damaged badly. The basement level has damage from smoke and water.

The Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office and Unified Fire Authority say they would like to speak with the girlfriend, although they are not calling her a suspect.
