Sam Penrod ReportingRecord-setting and breaking temperatures have many people worried about this year's fire season. Today, firefighters gathered in Central Utah to to start training for the dangers ahead.

The Utah Fire Academy met in the hills east of Richfield today to train on a controlled burn fire. It allowed firefighters to get real experience as they prepare for the fire season.

Brandon Hoffman, Manti-Lasal National Forest: "We're simulating live fire, and having live fire on this gives them hands-on experience out of the classroom and gives them the chance to be safe."

There were about 80 new firefighters training today.

Hoffman says this controlled burn is showing that the fields are dry and it doesn't take long to ignite the fields, despite the wet spring.
