Amanda Butterfield Reporting Dangerous deja vu tonight in Draper. A truck crashed in the same area where another truck crashed a month ago. But this time, the driver died. And neighbors worry it will happen again.

"Right here it's really treacherous because it's a steep hill, and a tight turn, and if you go too fast you can lose it."

Dump Truck Crashes, Driver Dies

Bad brake are what caused the driver to lose control. The death of that driver is causing Draper police to seriously evaluate the safety of the road.

The completion of the Bangerter Parkway into Draper was celebrated just months ago. It was meant to relieve traffic. Now it's a spot where Draper police are always patrolling, like they were when the truck flipped Monday afternoon.

A dump truck headed down Bangerter Parkway loses it's brakes, slams into the guardrail, and flips on its back. The driver, 36-year-old Devin Cordes from Orem, died.

He was transporting rocks from a new housing development.

Sgt. Allred/Draper City P.D.: "The driver was crushed in the cab."

Ben Millias/Neighbor: "The police were there within ten seconds. They must have watched the guy come down the hill. They're constantly here checking speeders anyway."

That's the problem with this new parkway-- speed.

Sgt. Allred/Draper Police Department: "I believe the perception is it's highway, but still residential. So people need to slow down."

Troy Sample/Neighbor: "It concerns me because of the speed. It concerns me because of construction, safety of kids, and safety of people driving on the hill."

This is the second major wreck Troy Sample has watched from his house.

Just weeks ago, up the road, a cement truck lost its brakes, got going too fast, crashed through a barrier and slid 100 feet down an embankment.

Troy Sample: "I was one of the first ones on the scene."

The driver survived.

And after today's wreck, Sample is tired of it.

Troy Sample/Neighbor: "It's definitely something that needs to be looked at, I think by Draper City for sure."

Sgt. Allred/Draper Police Department: "We're going to be reviewing that and make a determination to see what we need to do to make this road stay safe."

As for what caused the brakes to go bad in today's accident, investigators haven't determined if the brakes were faulty, or if the driver was going too fast then tried to slam on them too hard, or was riding the brakes.
