COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS — Two people were arrested early Sunday after police say they caught them stealing sombreros.

Cottonwood Heights police responded to an alarm at Whole Foods, 6930 Highland Drive, about 12:30 a.m. When the police arrived, they found two people who had taken three computer monitors, ornamental plastic leaves used for decoration and six sombreros from the store and loaded them into their vehicle, according to police.

The couple reportedly wanted to go shopping at Whole Foods but found the store was closed when they got there. They instead starting sifting through the trash cans looking for items and eventually tried the back door which they found was unlocked, police said.

A 21-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman were arrested. A 17-year-old girl was reportedly in the car with the couple, but did not participate in taking items.
