WEST VALLEY CITY — Two men suspected of robbing a bank were arrested Monday following a police chase involving multiple agencies.

The incident ended early Monday evening near 3100 South and 3600 West with the arrests of two men who had fled from a car following a winding chase, Salt Lake police said.

The men robbed a U.S. Bank branch at 2243 E. 2100 South around 4:30 p.m., Salt Lake Police Sgt. Brandon Shearer said. Police attempted to pull over their vehicle, which matched witness descriptions, around 2100 South and State Street, he said.

The men allegedly refused to stop the vehicle and led police through multiple jurisdictions, variously using I-15 and state Route 201 before finally coming to a stop in West Valley City. They were both arrested a short distance from where they abandoned the vehicle, according Shearer.

At one point, the fleeing vehicle crashed into another car near 1300 South and West Temple, the sergeant said. There were no injuries.

The arrested men were later identified as 26-year-old Maxwell Cowan and 25-year-old Daniel Riley. They were both booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of robbery and fleeing police.

The West Valley, Salt Lake and Unified police departments and the Utah Highway Patrol joined in the pursuit. Speeds varied between about 50 and 80 mph during the chase, Shearer said.
