FARR WEST — A man was arrested early Monday morning after police say he ran onto I-15 Sunday night, jumped into a woman’s vehicle and attempted a carjacking.
Just before midnight, police received reports of a possible drunk driver at a Maverik gas station, 1874 W. 2700 North. When the arriving officers approached the man, they “could smell the odor of alcohol,” according to a statement from the Weber County Sheriff’s Office.
While questioning the man, later identified as Christopher Mottes, the officers learned he had three warrants out for his arrest. When they tried to arrest him, Mottes ran onto I-15, the statement said.
As traffic slowed to avoid the hazard, police said Mottes jumped into a car and told the woman inside to drive away. There were also two children and a dog inside the car.
After seeing the police officers, the woman told Mottes "No!" and “refused to move,” the sheriff’s statement said.
Officers were able to pull Mottes out of the car and had to use a Taser on him to arrest him, police said.
Mottes was treated at a hospital for minor injuries he sustained in the incident and then was booked into the Weber County Jail. In addition to the warrants, he now faces charges of resisting arrest, fleeing and three counts of kidnapping.
