MANILA, Daggett County — Search crews are once again trying to find the body of a Riverton man who hasn't been seen since Sept. 1 when his boat capsized at Flaming Gorge Reservoir.
Susie Potter, spokeswoman for the Daggett County Sheriff's Office, said the search for Charles Darrell Thomas resumed Sunday.
"The Department of Public Safety brought a four-man dive team along with their side scan equipment to aid in the search," Potter said in a statement.
The search for Thomas, 69, was temporarily suspended by the sheriff's office on Sept. 7 due to the threat of inclement weather and a lack of resources. The tiny law enforcement agency with only four deputies had relied on personnel from the Utah Department of Public Safety, Utah State Parks, the sheriff's search and rescue teams for Summit, Uintah and Wasatch counties and Wyoming's Sweetwater County Sheriff's Office to conduct the search.
Thomas and his girlfriend, 62, were in a small motorized boat Sept. 1 when it capsized in Flaming Gorge between the Antelope Flats area and Lucerne Marina. The woman made it to shore after using a seat cushion as a flotation device, then walked to a campsite to get help, Potter said.
