PARIS (AP) — At least four people have died in torrential rains along the French Riviera where flooding transformed roads into waterways.
The prefecture of the Var region at the center of the storms said a woman's body was found Friday in La Londe-les-Maures; rescuers were searching for her 8-year-old daughter. Another woman died there on Thursday when the town was hit with flash floods.
The statement said the body of a third woman was found on a beach in nearby Hyeres, and the body of a man in Cogolin, futher east.
More than 600 rescuers, including divers, were combing the picturesque Mediterranean region for others who may have been trapped by floods that inundated homes.
Forecasters saw no letup in rains and heavy winds.
