OGDEN, Utah (AP) — An Ogden woman has been accused of stealing thousands of dollars from a preschool program designed to benefit children with autism.
Rebecca Irene Campos was charged with second-degree theft in October. Her attorney declined to comment on the case Saturday.
Court documents say the 31-year-old woman took $5,000 from the Northern Utah Autism Program between September 2015 and August 2016. Campos was reportedly a parent volunteer for the group and had access to an account containing money from private donors.
A school employee became aware of the missing funds and confronted Campos, who allegedly admitting taking the money because of financial difficulties.
The preschool program's director, Alexis Barker, says the program serves autistic children between 3 and 5 years old in Weber and Ogden school districts.
