LAWTON, Okla. (AP) — A boil water order has been issued for the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center in southwestern Oklahoma.
The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality said Thursday that the order was issued because E.coli was found in the drinking water.
The DEQ said in a statement that water intended for drinking should be brought to a full, rolling boil for at least one minute before being consumed.
The department said users of the water will be notified when the water is considered safe.
The federal Centers for Disease Control says E.coli is a bacteria that can cause diarrhea, urinary tract infections, respiratory illness and pneumonia.
