SHELTON, Neb. (AP) — The Shelton school board is looking for an interim superintendent after the man who currently holds the job was accused of attacking his wife.

Board members say they expect to have a superintendent vacancy for the coming school year and have hired the recruiting firm McPherson and Jacobson to conduct a search, according to the Grand Island Independent (http://bit.ly/1WxZ1EQ ). The board will interview interim superintendent candidates on Tuesday, and the announcement of the board's choice could come as early as Thursday.

Current Superintendent Brian Redinger has been charged in Hall County with three felonies and a misdemeanor as a result of what authorities say was a domestic assault on April 10. Redinger, 45, was charged with making terroristic threats against his wife and faces assault-related charges.

Online court records did not list an attorney for Redinger, who has not yet entered a plea. School officials have declined to specify Redinger's employment status with the district.

McPherson & Jacobson is the search firm that helped the Grand Island school board hire Tawana Grover as its new superintendent to succeed Rob Winter, who is retiring. The contract for the interim Shelton superintendent would run from May or June of this year until June 2017, school board President Russ Muhlbach said in a press release.

Redinger became superintendent at Shelton Public Schools in 2011. Last year, he asked the school board for permission to live in another community while continuing to serve as superintendent.
