YERINGTON, Nev. (AP) — Republican presidential hopeful Marco Rubio will make history for a rural, west Nevada town when he visits there this week.
The mayor of Yerington tells the Reno Gazette-Journal (http://on.rgj.com/1Ump9OL) that the small town has never been a campaign stop for an active presidential candidate.
Mayor George Dini, who is a Democrat, says he thinks voters from both parties will attend Rubio's scheduled Tuesday meet-and-greet at the Pioneer Crossing convention center.
The Florida senator is conducting a multi-stop tour of northern Nevada on Monday with events in Reno and Carson City.
Rubio's cousin is state Sen. Mo Denis, a Democrat from Las Vegas.
